ALOHA FRIDAY # 26

Aloha Friday #26

This week I am diving into something that I think can be very personal. It is one of two topics many people try to avoid, Politics and Religion. Of course mine is all about Religion today.

To start off, I am a born again Christian and was Baptized a couple years ago. I go to this wonderful little church and our pastor preaches each week from one book in the Bible verse by verse. He really breaks the Bible down each week. Lets just say it took two years to get through Genesis, a little more than one year to get through John and we are almost through Romans. I like this because you really learn the details that are in each of those books of the Bible.

So my question this week:

Have you ever read the entire Holy Bible (cover to cover)? I don't care what version, I just want to know if you have read all the way through it.

My answer: No I haven't (not yet anyway). We have a daily reading that can get us through the Bible in one year. I have tried for the past three years and have yet to get all the way through. I am the first to say this frustrates me but I am not a reader. I don't sit and read books, never have and don't enjoy reading books. Because I am not one to sit and read this is very hard for me. The Bible is very complex, really tough to follow and understand sometimes. I have however decided I am not going to let this defeat me. I recently bought the Bible on CD in the dramatized version. I am hooked!!! I listen in the car every where I go. I often pull out my Bible and I am reading along with the CD and everything just makes so much more sense to me. I make more notes in my Bible now of those Ahha moments especially of the different prophecies that were made hundreds of years before Jesus birth. I want to know the Word and I can't know it if I can't get through it.

Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My Very, Very Old House

This weeks wordfull Wednesday is all about my house. Seven, almost eight years ago we bought a bank repossessed house. This was an old farm house that had been trashed. Our first objective was to gut the place. We tore out everything but the kitchen and that still got a major clean up. Along our journey we found our house has so really cool history. First I would like to say my house says it was built in 1919 we have reason to believe it is older than that. My first photo is a picture of our torn out stairway. We removed all the plaster and lath walls to find this behind a large portion of our house.

What you see is the old style log cabin. Yes that large brown area between the painted wood logs is mud and horse hair. House were not typically built like this after the 1900's. Not to say ours wasn't but it raises a flag.

Now this photo is really cool. Someone had plastered between two boards on a section of our stairway and signed it. Sorry you can't see it to well but it has a name along with the date May 3, 1911. Pretty cool find if you ask me.

This is my stairway today after we put it all back together. Can't even tell all that old stuff is behind my walls.

At the top of my stairway you can see that we have this really cool ledge. It is because our supper thick log cabin walls only go up so high and then the upstairs must have been added on later. Because of this we were able to add this nice ledge and when, ha let me rephrase that if we ever finish our upstairs bathroom we have some cool plans for some wall inserts in their also.

Go visit Angie at 7 Clown Circus for more great Wordfull Wednesday post.

I Heart Faces, Pouting

I have never done an I Love Faces post but I thought this one would be fun. I entered the kids pouting.

We were at the fair last summer and Thomas had reached his stroller limits. As you can tell by the look on his face this was not a happy moment. I am not sure if I would call this pouting or all out fit.

A whole lot of nothing....

I don’t have any one big thing to blog on today but there have been many things going on this past week.

Luke is on Spring break this week, the worst part is next week I will be taking a week of vacation because Thomas’s sitter is going on vacation. Talk about bad timing!!! I will still make the most of Luke’s time off this week and my time off next week.

Luke has been coming home with school papers that just blow me away. When I was in kindergarten we learned our ABC’s, he is doing simple math, reading and writing and it is just so neat to see his excitement over school. He has a fabulous teacher and I feel this really helps him love school and learning.

We started our indoor plants for the garden over the weekend. We are a little late in getting started with this so hopefully we are not too late. We started 72 tomato plants and 72 bell pepper plants, a variety of different types of both. We love tomato’s and peppers in my house but if these all do well, we are probably going to be really sick of both by the end of the summer. I am so excited to get my garden started. A couple months from now I will probably be really sick of all the effort it is going to take to keep up. I know me… so be ready.

Thomas slept all night long for the past two nights. I don’t know what is different but I will take it. I am excited and telling the world. Yet I know I shouldn’t be because I am sure this is a random event, a nice little tease to let me know exactly what I am missing out on. LOL….

I don’t think I am ever going to break this child from the bottle. He is obsessed… if he sees one sitting in the fridge the fit begins until he wins and has that bottle. I know I am the grown up and he is the child but you should see that battle he wages for that bottle. In all seriousness, I need to crack down on this because this has got to come to an end soon. I need to video tape the excitement that he exudes when he knows he is going to get a bottle. His obsession is scary!!!

His vocabulary is taking off like a rocket these days. I am blown away at the new words he is adding daily. Here are just a few…
- nack (snack) as we point to the cabinet where food is kept
- baa baa (aka bottle) this is not one I like. Just because before everything was eewice (juice). He figured out when he said juice he got juice in a cup so he mastered the baa baa quickly.
- Ouwn… (down)
- Watch… we have to watch everything these days. When he is playing with big brothers race track we always have to watch.
- Bye Bye dada…. I love this because he is putting words together. We say this every morning when daddy leaves for work.
I have many more and everyday here lately he is surprising me with something new.

Thomas also loves his big brothers guitar. He walks around the house bopping back and forth like he is playing music. I would love to catch this on video. I swear I need a hidden camera running 24/7 in my house. It is the only way I am going to get anything on tape. As soon as either child sees a camera it is over, the cute acts come to an end.
