New Music, Aloha Friday

Aloha Friday # 18
Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question this week…..

What new song on the radio do you like right now?
Do you like the song enough to go out and buy it?

Right now I have two songs that I just love. All I can say is I am a country girl at heart.

#1 Blake Shelton’s, She Wouldn’t Be Gone

#2 Darius Rucker’s, It Wont Be Like This For Long

This song melts my heart because it reminds me of how quickly my kids will out grow the various phases of their lives. So many parts of the song I went through with my oldest and I can’t believe how quickly those things came and went.

I just saw Darius Rucker in concert as he was the opening act for Brad Paisley. Did you know Darius Rucker was the lead singer of Hootie & the Blow Fish? He has gone country…LOL. The concert was great and he sang one of Hootie & the Blow Fishes big hits "Let Her Cry". It was a great concert!!

He Doesn't Sleep

This week has been really bad for sleep. Every night this week my 15 month old has been getting up between 12 and 2 and is wide awake this entire time. This is so frustrating because he goes to bed at 10 and is back up two hours later and ready to go. I get up, give him milk, change his diaper and let him fall back asleep in our bed most of the time this is a 10 minute process at night. Not this week, he flips all around the bed, restless and shows no signs that he is going back to sleep. I lay in bed getting hit, kicked, climbed on and so on. It is so frustrating. After about 30 minutes of this my patients has run out and I just put him into his crib. He cries… and cries… and cries… It ranges from a fuss cry to a full blown I am mad cry. Plus he is in our room so this really sucks!!! I don’t like to leave my babies cry but when I am tired my patients is very limited.

A couple times I got back up and comforted him by sitting and rocking him. He seems like he is asleep in my arms with the exception of his little hand running up and down the back of my pajamas. I eventually try to lay him back in his crib and the crying starts all over again.

I asked the sitter if Thomas has been taking extra long naps. No, he is taking his typical one nap a day for about an hour and half. This child has never been a napper. I then want to ask the sitter, are you giving him caffeine shots all day longs. He is acting like a child pumped up on a sugar and caffeine high. Side note: I would never say this to my sitter because I know it isn’t true. She is great with my kids and I love her so much for it. This is my frustration speaking just because of how he is behaving.

This is a new experience for me because my first child slept 12 hours at night and took two long naps every day at this age. This child stays up late, gets up in the middle of the night, wakes early and barely takes a nap. I just don’t know what to do? Have any of you dealt with this? Do you have any advice? Help!!!

Wordless Wednesday, Sleeping w/the Dog

Last Friday night we were all watching a movie and Thomas laid down on the floor and curled up next to the dog and fell asleep.

It was the cutest moment.

Go visit Angie at 7 Clown Circus for more great Wordless Wednesday post.

Sssssss..... for Potty Training

My son is 15 months old and I have been trying out potty training. Now don’t think I am crazy, I am not looking to have him out of diapers next week, no I am just trying to get him to occasionally pee in the potty.

Nothing like a good head start.

So here is our routine….every time we change a diaper I sit him on the potty for a few minutes. While he is sitting on the potty I make a sssssss… sound to represent peeing or something like that. I think you all get the idea… LOL. Anyway now every time I sit Thomas on the potty he makes the sssssss….. sound. It is so funny that he thinks sitting on the potty means me make this silly sound. Now if only I could get him to actually pee in the potty. LOL….

Motivate Me Monday

Play along the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month.

How many of you make a promise to yourself that this week I am going to start exercising, exercise a little more or you need a new physical challenge but you just can’t seem to do it. I started the year off with the resolution to get myself back into shape. A month has gone by and I haven’t done a single thing. I want to motivate myself and make this a challenge.

Motivate Me Monday is all about helping each other with our fitness goals. I find it so much easier to work out when I know I am being held accountable. If I know that someone is checking in on me each week then I carry that around in the back of my mind all week long. Hence motivating me to get my work outs in. This is not all about me but about you also. I can’t do this alone, I need others to play along so that I have support from you and so that I can support you as well.

The objective here is to come up with a goal each week. The scale of your goals is what you want to make it. For instance you are doing something as small as walking around the block twice a week or………….head over to the other end of the scale and you are going to really kick up your work out and make it intense by working out 6 days a week with very specific goals for each of those six days. Next week come back tell us how you did and what your new goals are for the next week.

Tell us why you are working out. Everyone has a reason, unless you are one of those nuts that just love working out… lol. Are you planning a trip to the beach this summer and you are not ready to put on that bathing suit (I am never ready for that one)? Did you just have a baby and need to drop that extra weight? Did you gain a few extra ponds over the holidays? Are you doing it for your health? What is your reason?

I have two reasons, one my body is out of shape from having child number two. I just can’t seem to make the time to work out and I need to stop making excuses and tone up this body. My second reason is based on my family history. Heart disease is a big killer in my family. My grandmother had her first heart-attach in her 30’s, had a couple more before the last one took her life when she was 69 years old. I am in my 30’s and I think about this often. I know I am not my grandmother but there is so much history on both sides of the family and our life expectancy is much shorter because of it. I don’t want to be like everyone else in my family, I want to live to be that old… old lady. So for that reason I am motivating myself each week.

Join us each Monday, write a blog post and bust out those tennis shoes and get motivated.

Thanks!!! Nina
