Prom Night - Flash Back

Let’s crank up the time machine and go back in time….
17 years back in time to be exact.

The year… 1992!

This was my husband’s senior prom and this was my junior prom. Don’t panic, we were not married way back then just dating. Actually we had only been dating a few short months before all of this. I had no clue way back then that we would be where we are today. It has been a long and sometimes bumpy road but it has been our road.

I laugh at this photo with my curly hair and Eric still has hair.
17 years can really take its tool.

My Aloha Friday question this week:
Did you go to your prom when you were in highschool?

On this night (shown above) it was my husband's senior prom. I did not go to his school but my junior prom was the same night so we went to his prom instead. Don't worry the very next year we went to my senior prom.

Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life.

Creative Writing from a 6 Year Old

Luke is in kindergarten and I am so impressed with where he started this year and how far he has come. Since around Christmas time Luke has been bringing home these writing projects. They tell a story and draw a picture to go with the story. They have a wall of letters and letters that are put together that make certain sounds that they can use as a guide for their writing project but it is up to them to write everything out.

When they started these we got a lot of stories about dogs just because that was a word he could spell along with a lot of his other words that he has learned this year.

This paper came home yesterday and I just love it. He has really stepped out on a limb and tried to put together some big words. So he spelled them wrong, still a fantastic attempt.

Luke's version of what it say's: A penuin is cocen hambrgrs on wodr.

Translated correctly: A penguin is cooking hamburgers on water.

This makes a mother so proud.

Our First Field Trip

Luke went on his first ever school field trip. All three kindergarten classes went to the zoo. 20 parents got to go be a part of the day and Luke asked his dad to go. I was a little hurt he didn't pick me but I also am running out of vacation days and need to watch where I am using them up.

The day of the zoo trip we all over slept. Go figure the day we need to be somewhere extra important and the alarm doesn't go off. I wake up and see it is 6:55 and they are supposed to be at the school at 7:45. I am like a cat on cat-nip (I think that's what it is called), anyway I am running like a crazy person. Eric, not in a hurry. This causes me more stress because he can be late and he doesn't care. I just wasn't about to let Luke miss his big field trip day because his dad can't get it in gear.

So I pack their lunches, feed Luke and get him moving. Now I would like to point out this was supposed to be my morning where I get to kick back, take it easy, get only one kid ready, and only have to make one child care stop that morning. Oh how I was looking forward to a nice cup of coffee and a care free morning. However my alarm clock took that away from me. Oh well this is my life after all.

Luke road for the first time ever on the big yellow school bus. I was more nervous about this than anyone. I guess I just don't understand how school buses can get away with not having seat belts when by state law my child has to be in a booster seat of some type for the next several years. Doesn't seem right if you ask me.

Parents did not get to ride on the bus. All chaperons car pooled together. So Eric got to ride with 4 other moms. He was so funny to tell me about the car pooling. Eric can't stand when women start getting catty and he said the moment they got in the car it started. If only you could have seen his reaction to all of this. It was a really good laugh.
Luke and his dad!

The weather sucked! Eric and another one of the mom's bought all the kids rain coats because none of them were prepared to spend the day out in the rain. I should clarify all the kids in their group. It was four parents and 8 kids per group. The classes did not stay together which is nice because they could see more in smaller groups.
These poor kids looked like drown rats.
Over all they had a really good time even if they got wet.

Then Eric had another fun ride home. One of the mom's ended up getting sick in the car on the way home. She threw up in the back seat only to cause the other mom in the back seat to get sick also. Talk about an adventurous day. I must say, I am glad I missed that part of it.

Have you done any school field trips with your kids?
