Sharing A Bedroom

My friend Peanut does these amazing 5 Things Thursday. I have played along a few times but here lately I haven’t been able to think of anything. Now what I mean is I could do the easy stuff but I like to do as Peanut does and choose things that are not always the easiest to find the good qualities about them, humble myself and remind myself that there is good in every situation. Last week Peanut did one about her kids sharing a bed room and this gave me an idea for my 5 Things Thursday. So this week I am going to find the 5 Things I love about sharing a bed room with my 18 month old.

We have a very little house and it has only two bedrooms. When I was pregnant we upgraded Luke from a toddler bed to bunk beds for his bed room and praying that we were going to have another boy who could share a room with his brother when he got a little older. That part came true and the bunk beds were not a waist. Now while the bunk beds are great for the future we still had a baby and a bed room to small for the two boys to share. The crib was not going to fit into Luke’s room and this meant that Thomas was going to have to be in our bedroom. This really was no big deal to me because when Luke was a baby our upstairs wasn’t done and the office downstairs was used as a bedroom for all of us and we had a crib in our room back then also. So here are my 5 reasons for loving sharing my room with my babies.

1. When Thomas wakes up in the middle of the night I hear him right away and it takes me three steps from the bed to the crib to get him. I will often let him fuss and squirm for a bit but I can always tell when he has reached his limit and I have to get up and get him.

2. There is nothing better in the morning than waking up to a happy smiling little boy who is leaning over the rail of his crib calling out for you. I don’t think he would have as pleasant of an attitude in the mornings if he was alone in a room.

3. Neither boy when they were babies had a room of their own. Because I never had a bedroom for either of my babies I never had a nursery to decorate. This was a little tough for me because every mom wants to have a cute nursery to decorate. The blessing about not having a nursery, I didn’t spend a bunch of money on things that I didn’t really need in the first place. It saved me a lot of money.

4. I don’t have to go far to check on him at night when I am worried about him. As a mother I worry so much and it is so easy to just do a quick check.

5. When I put Thomas to bed I always put him in his crib awake and he will play for a bit and then fall asleep. He is fine with putting himself to sleep as long as I stay in the room. So I put him to bed and lay down on my bed and just relax and process my day. It is great quiet time for me and when he really isn’t ready to go to sleep yet I get to enjoy a little giggle time with him.

Here is a little sample of some of that giggle time. I will say I normally don't interact with him like this but I had the camera so I had too.

Sorry for the dark picture, the lights were dimmed down low.

Reasons to Love my House

Yesterday I shared many things around my house that are unfinished. Today I am going to share 5 reasons why I love my house. This is sometimes hard for me to do because of all the unfinished things but trust me the good out weigh the bad and I have to remind myself of this all the time. So here we go.....

5 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT MY HOUSE.

1. Its old charm!!! How many of you can say you have a stain glass window in your house? One of the first things you see when you come into my house is this beautiful old window. Yeah, it leaks air and isn't very efficient but it is so pretty. It was one of the first things I saw and fell in love with when I bought this house.
2. My bay window in the living room. Sorry I can't get a better picture. The sun is blazing in this morning and when I take my picture up close it just turns really dark. This window goes all the way to the floor and lets the west winds blow right through our house on a nice day. The cross breeze is amazing.
3. I love the open floor plan of my house. Not to many old homes have this type of open floor plan. You can see from one end of the living room through to the dining room. Now my kitchen is off to the left of the dining room and my toy room/office is off to the right of the living room. Oh don't mind the little monkey climbing through the columns. He knows he isn't supposed to be doing that.

4. My house is small approximately 1400 square feet. This is little but the open floor plan makes it feel much bigger than it is. Plus my space is all downstairs and all the rooms downstairs are large. It is upstairs where everything is very small. We have two bedrooms and that is it. While the house is small we have a huge yard. An acre and one-third to be exact. It is large and offers lots of room for the dogs and kids to run and play.

5. The top reason why I love my house... it was cheap! Yes, we bought a bank repossessed house. Yes it was completely trashed when we bought it. We had to replace everything and do a lot of fixing up (still fixing) but it was cheep. We got this place for next to nothing. I never worry about one of us losing our jobs because the mortgage could easily be paid. If we really put our effort into it we could pay off our mortgage in 5 years. This is actually a goal of mine.

So every time I get the new house bug or envy someone else of their big new house I remind myself of #5. Plus we have talked about adding an addition onto this house that would give us a 3rd bedroom and an open kitchen with a new family room if we did it. Still talking!!!

My Best Friend

In my life I have had so many people that I though were my friends really cause me pain and push me right out of their lives. It is one of those things you often wonder what I did wrong, why do they not want to be a part of my life anymore. Often it was one of those things where they just stop communicating with you and it hurt. No reason, no explanation, they just shut me out. I would try and try to reach out and nothing. I finally hit a point in my life where really my only friends were my husband and my mom. It was really lonely not having a girlfriend but I just put up a wall because I had been hurt so many times and decided that I wasn’t going to be hurt anymore.

Then about 7 years ago I worked with this gal who befriended me. It wasn’t an instant friendship but it built up over time and we became so close. Today I call her my best friend and I couldn’t imagine not having her in my life. I trust her with everything. With that said here are 5 reasons why I love having her in my life and these are the reasons she is and will always be my best friend.

1. She loves my kids.
She loves kids and she treats mine like they were her own. She calls herself their Aunt and that is exactly what she is to my kids. She spoils them more than any of their real aunts ever would. She spoils them with gifts (that are not necessary), goes to soccer games, birthday parties and everything else that I ask her to attend. At one point Luke called her the present lady because every time we saw her she had a gift for him. Now he just gets excited to here he is going to see her. She plays with them and loves them as much as I do.

2. We are so much alike
We love the same things from talking about the kids, work, and family. We watch the same TV shows and end up texting each other in the evenings when we get excited over something we both know the other is watching.

3. Things we do
We live about 30 minutes from each other and work really far from each other. Since we live far apart we don’t get to do much together too often but when we do we have a really great time. We have gone to concerts together. A couple times each year we get manicures and pedicures together and that is always a fun time. We gab away the entire time and it goes so fast. We have gone on girl trips together. I remember our last trip it was just her and me in my car and our 6 hour drive to Tennessee felt like 5 minutes because we gabbed the time away. Can you tell we are gabby… lol

4. Sharing everything
I share all my thoughts and feelings with her. I can't think of anyone who knows me as well as she does.

5. We inspire each other.
She loves to shop; hand bags and shoes are her weakness. I am very frugal and debate over buying anything and often walk away with nothing. When we shop together she encourages me to splurge on myself and I help her behave and not go over board. LOL… It is funny to see us. She telling me “just buy it, when do you ever do anything for just you….” Then there is me “do you really need that? How many of those do you already have?” It is pretty funny!!! Now if she could just help me with my buyer’s remorse. We just bought new hand bags at a party and I am having major buyer remorse because I have never spent that much money on a purse.

I just hope nothing ever changes between us and someday we are 90 and still getting together to gab it up. LOL….

The photo is of me and her from one of our girl trips. We went to Tennesse in 2005.

5 New Words That I Love

My 16 month old Thomas is really starting to build up his vocabulary with lots of new words every day. Here are 5 words that he uses regularly that I love hearing him say.

1. Oow Rush ~~ Tooth Brush
You can not be in the bathroom with out him pointing at the shelf where we keep the tooth brushes begging for his oow rush, oow rush. I think he brushes his teeth 10 times a day. LOL…

2. Hi
This one he has been saying for a while but just recently he says hi to everyone. In the grocery store the other day he was saying “hi” to everyone that went by. Then he found a lady that said hi back and he singled her out every isle we were in. It was funny! Just the other day he started saying hi in the car to anyone that we pass that is walking on the street. He doesn’t know they can’t hear him so he is chatting it up with everyone from point A to point B.

3. Nigh Nigh ~~ Night, Night
When we get ready for bed he knows it is night, night time and this is all he says until we head upstairs. If you tell him it is night, night time he runs to the gate at the bottom of the stairs and says nigh, nigh and points up the stairs. He knows.

4. Whaan ~~ want
This one is funny because you can’t be in the kitchen with out him pointing and demanding “wanting” something. We are working on the please and thank you but so far nothing on that end. We have the “whann” down pat.

5. Ickle, ickle, ickle ~~ Tickle, Tickle, Tickle
I love this one because if you could here it, it is too cute!! I would love to catch this one on tape but I don’t think I will because he would have to be off playing and not knowing that I am recording him. He does the same thing with doggy but it is oggy, oggy, oggy.

Sorry I lied it is going to be 7 things today. LOL....

6. Sit
He knows this one so well because it is all he ever hears me telling him. Sit, sit down, sit… He is a monkey!!! The funny part is he knows he is supposed to sit and will tell himself to sit when he is standing. He has even told me to sit a few times.
7. Trash ~~ rash
Every time we change his diaper he instantly wants the diaper and says rash... all the way to the kitchen he jabbers about the rash. He then opens the cabinet and puts it in.
