Acting Just Like His Dad

Luke and his dad have been playing Indiana Jones Lego’s on the Wii. Luke loves this game but he is 6 so he roams around the boards with no real focus. This drives his dad crazy!!! Here is what happens:

Eric: “Luke would you get over here (talking to his game character, they have to stick together on the board)?” “Stop doing that and play right.” “That is not how you play the game”….

Luke: “Daddy I am playing my way…” “Daddy it doesn’t matter”

Constant bickering back and forth the entire time they play. Eric gets so frustrated with Luke.

So the other day Luke is playing the game with his cousin Emma. Oh my gosh!!! All I here as they are playing: “Emma would you get over here?” Emma stop doing that and play right.” “Emma that is not how you play.” (insert the sarcastic tone in his voice). This boy is acting just like his father. LOL…

Eric says to me he needs to check his attitude when playing with Emma. He isn’t being very nice. Uh… hello… he is acting just like you do when the two of you play.

Eric just doesn’t see it. LOL….

Do any of your kids act like you or your significant other?

Choosing Between Hard Wood or Carpet

Aloha Friday # 16

Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question this week…..

In your home do you have hard wood floors or carpet?
Which do you like better and why?

When we remodeled our house I made a decision to go with hard wood floors all through out my downstairs. My husband has really bad allergies and they say carpet is one of the worst things to have when you have allergies because it traps the allergens. I also love the hard floors because they clean easily and always look nice. The dogs and kids can spill anything and everything and I know that they are going to come clean. Carpet can be shampooed and vacuumed all day long but I don’t really know if it is clean.

The one thing I don’t like is the hard floors are cold in the winter months and they are not soft to just get down and play on. I have a couple area rugs to help with that issue.

Two years ago we finished our upstairs and decided to put carpet in. I wanted something a little warmer for everyone’s bedrooms. All I can say is I hate it!!! I look back now and feel it was a bad choice.

I say this because yesterday I was vacuuming the carpet upstairs and came across so many stains. OK there is supposed to be NO food or drinks upstairs unless it is water and yet what are these stains on my carpet. I tried cleaning them and nothing was working. I was so mad and looking back I really wish I would have gone with wood floors.

Oh yeah if you are a carpet person what do you recommend for getting stains out? I have tried Resolve and it sucks!!!

Focus Friday: Out with the Changing Table

Thrifty & Chic Mom says: As we enter a new year everyone has a list as long as their arm of things they want to accomplish. My list could go on forever and now I have a way to hold myself accountable by choosing one thing to focus on each week. It can be big or small; it doesn't matter just as long as I specify what it is and get it done.

So each week I will post my focus for the upcoming week as well as give a recap of how my week went with the previous focus. Now play along with Thrifty & Chic Mom and everyone else who is trying to put a little focus back into their lives.

So today is focus Friday and this is my first time playing along. I must say I could really use this in my life because I tend to make lots of goals and not get any of them done hence my lack of focus. LOL…

Last Weeks Focus:
I had my tables cleaned off last Saturday. It was a great feeling and I just kept going and cleaned off the counters, top of the refrigerator and so on. By the time I was done my kitchen and dinning room were glowing. I was thrilled!!! Now keeping them cleaned off all week was a challenge. My boys called me cute when I said they were to keep the tables cleaned off. I had to make several threats this week but the tables look great and are still clean. Yeah!!!

This weeks Challenge: I have a changing table in my living room that is no longer used for its intended purpose. It has become a laundry holder along with so much more. My plane is to find a home for everything on it and get it out of my house. It would be nice to have that corner of my living room back.

It has been here for 6 years done its job for two kids, been a great toy rack but now it must go.

I have tried this one a few times before and never completed the task. Wish me luck!!!

A Little Something Extra for The Duck

My youngest son Thomas is 14 months old and he is currently contributing to the water being added to his bathtub. Yes, yes, I am talking about him peeing in the tub.

Our house is supposed to have two bathrooms but currently only has one and it only has a shower (brand new Jacuzzi tub in my in-laws barn waiting to be installed in our bathroom, another story for another day). I have one of those inflatable bathtubs shaped like a duck that I give Thomas baths in. Here lately every time I put him into the bathtub he will not sit down right away and he stands and pee’s all over the side of the duck and in his bath water. YUCK!!! He grins ear to ear and giggles like it is hilarious when he does it. I thought OK I will get smart and I bought a little potty and I sit him on it before putting him in the bath to try and get him to pee in the potty. Nope, he won’t do it so I think ok he doesn’t need to go. Wrong!!!! AS soon as he is in the duck he starts peeing. Again grinning ear to ear and giggling like he is the funniest thing on the planet. I think when his feet hit the water he gets the urge to pee so he does, all over the duck. I told Eric I am getting a bowl out and putting warm water in it and putting his feet in it while he sits on the little potty. Maybe then he will pee in the potty. LOL….

I am a bit worried he enjoys my reaction when he pees all over the duck and it is going to take a lot of effort to break him of this new habit. Have your kids peed in strange places? Was it a hard habit to break?

The Curse of Modern Technology…

For seven years we went with out Cable TV in my house. Before that my husband and I had cable TV but when we bought our house we didn’t order cable because we didn’t have time for TV.

We bought a bank reposed house and gutted it. We ripped every room except the kitchen down to the bare studs. This was our first home and we found this old farm house that we fell in love with and wanted to fix up. We didn’t move into our house until the bathroom downstairs was put back together. Then we moved our bed into the dinning room and had tarps hanging from our walls. We were living a primitive life to say the least. This was our living space for the next 9 months. We were so busy working on the house we just plugged rabbit ear’s (antenna) into the TV and barely found time to watch it. Over time we expanded our living space and added more rooms for living in but still never got cable TV. I was fine having just ABC, NBC, CBS, WB, PBS & FOX for TV channels. These channels had all the shows I liked and PBS provided quality cartoon’s for my son so it worked out great for us.

Last April we got cable and I think it was a huge mistake. I find myself watching more TV than I ever did before. Before cable the weekends were TV free. We would watch a little on Friday night and then it didn’t go back on again until Sunday night because there was never anything to watch. (I don’t watch sports so it was easy to turn off). I got so much done on my weekends. We listened to the radio and did many other things but we didn’t sit and watch TV.

Now I have cable and all these stupid cable shows that I find myself watching and the TV is on all weekend long. I can’t stand it…. I always say this weekend I am shutting off the TV but it never happens. I will even sit and watch reruns of my favorite shows.

Do you find yourself a slave to the TV or some other modern day technology that you sometimes wish wasn’t in your house?

2009 Valentine Day Swap

Over at An Island Life she is having a Valentine Day Swap.

If you’d like to participate here's how it works, go to An Island Life and get all the details.

I have decided this sounds like fun especially since my husband labels Valentine's Day as a Halmark holiday and he will not do anything on this day. He doesn't want to be told he has to do something nice on a specific day... ok that is fine except he should pick a day or two at random through out the year for this. He doesn't .... oh well, I knew this when I got married.

So I am very excited because I will be getting something in the mail for Valentine's Day... Yeah!!!

Here are my answers to the questionnaire: (I hope this helps)

What is your idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day?
Any dinner with out children throwing food is a good one.

In reality, what is your Valentine’s Day really like?
It is just another day in my house. I do something for my boys because I am going to raise them to not be like their father. LOL

If you could have a lifetime supply of your favorite sweet indulgence, what would it be?
I love Dark Chocolate.... anything with a creamy center just makes it even better. I also love the Converstaion Hearts... it is one that I get to enjoy one time per year.

Is there any sweet treat you absolutely do not like?
Black liquorice, anything with coconut and white chocolate.

If you fell into a pool of chocolate, how would you get out?
I would eat until I was sick and then eat some more....
