4th of July

For the fourth of July every year we drive to the city to see their fireworks. Now they always have their fireworks on the 3rd and that is fine with me because we can then sit in our backyard and watch the local ones on the 4th.

We get downtown and we find our usual spot but decide to move over a bit into this parking lot that is normally closed off but was open this year. It was nice that it was open because it gave people more room to spread out. At least I thought it was nice before the fireworks began.

We were seated directly across from the fence that was the cut off line for where people can no longer sit. This was such a bad choice. The fireworks started and we are sitting in flying debris central. Seriously, they closed this lot in the past for a reason obviously so why did they open it this year. I got smacked in the face by some large chunk that fell from the sky, Eric got ash in his eye and near us a flaming piece came down and landed right in front of this little boy. Talk about to close for comfort. I was busier watching for flying objects and falling flames than I was enjoying the fireworks.

So now this is my note to self, do not sit in parking lot next year.

Luke loves going to see fireworks every year. The noise has never bothered him but he always wears ear plugs. Now Thomas went last year and didn't react. This year at 19 months old he freaked out. As soon as the bangs began he was climbing me like a cat. Scared to death! We took noise cancellation head phones and put those on him and he seemed to calm down. But his eyes bugged out of his sockets as he clung to me watching. Poor thing!

When the finally hit and the bangs really kicked up I think he stopped breathing because his whole body was so tense and you know he could still hear even with the head phones.

I just hope that next year he isn't as scared. We love the fireworks and I would hate to have to miss them. Of course I would do that just for my babies.

(SORRY I TOOK NO PICTURES THIS YEAR) I don't know what is wrong with me here lately I have keep forgetting my camera.

Wow, that sounds like quite an event. How awful to have stuff falling on you.
My 22 month old was terrified too. We go down to the Naval Hospital which is on the river directly across from the barge where the light them off. He was so scared that I had to take him inside the hospital and miss the show. Ah well, maybe next year...

Yikes!! Sounds like you were almost part of the show!!!

I hope you will enjoy paper crafting! You can start slowly and small and work your way up. It's alot of fun!!

YOU HAVE TO TRY SCENTSY!! Cheaper, easier and safer than candles and work even better!! I used to be a major candle lover too.

My friends sells them! Her site is: http://www.scentsy.com/24310

Pick out a warmer you love, and 5 scents and you'll be soooo tickled!

Gosh- I can't believe that you were so close to the debris!! Scary! Joseph was scared too and climbed up me! I'll have to post about that later- I think it is just the age maybe.

No camera?! LOL, you're slipping, Mom!! haha Mine is dead half the time, so I can TOTALLY relate.

Last year, Jonah was the same way, we almost didn't enjoy ourselves because he was so upset. This year, though a little afraid at times, he got through it. Just the really loud booms got him this year. So I bet next year, Thomas will be better. Poor babies. No telling what is going through their little minds.

Man, I can imagine if you are that close, you would get debris - we've never been that close. We were much further away than they allowed people this year. The year before last, I almost killed some hillbilly lady who was letting her hooligan 5-6 year old son set off rockets right next to us. Jonah was 5 months old and sitting in my lap and a rocket went off course and landed about 2 feet in front of my chair. I seriously saw the rocket and grabbed Jonah and flew backwards out of my chair and over the top of my son onto the ground to shelter him from the explosion - at the same time my husband was running up to the rocket and putting his foot down on it and got burned. I came up out of that fetal position with Jonah on my hip and was marching across that parking lot to give that lady what for. I saw nothing but red, and was shaking ALL over. Later, after I had cooled off (and we were safe in ANOTHER spot clear away from that other family) my husband laughed because I obviously had no fear, and that lady was like 3 times my size and looked like a man. I was so pissed off, I think I could have taken her, even with a baby on my hip. LOL Some people just don't think.

Poor Thomas, I feel so bad that he was so scared. Maybe in time he will be like Luke and just LOVE them.

Glad you had a nice 4th.

I bet they won't be as scared if they aren't quite as close. That sounds really close! How ... exciting. :)

Oh no, that all sounds challenging as a mom! My son too, is very sensitive to the noise. At 3 he is starting to get over is some. I hope yours does by next year! Very scaring about the flying debris!
