Aloha Friday
Question:
Are you a do-it-yourself (DIY) person?
Fortunately and unfortunately my husband and I are DIY’s. I am so blessed that we are able to fix, remodel and do some many things around our house. It really does save a lot of money but on the other end it is a bit of a curse. I feel as though we don’t get much done and we just can’t bring ourselves to pay someone when we know we can do it ourselves. The problem is we can do it but don’t always have the time. Blessing or a curse, I am just not sure.

22 Comments Welcome:
I try to be realistic and do the stuff that I am capable of doing and have the time to do.
Happy Friday!

Yes, but not by choice. In the long run, I'd personally probably safe time and money by hiring a professional for any kind of house projects.
we sure are! Between my hubby and my family we can do almost everything around our house. We'll be building our next house with the help of my family-and a few people like electricians and plumbers b/c we don't do those! :)
Oh yeah I am. I will find out how and do it. some things I will leave to the pros. However must thing I will do myself. Love all those DIY shows:-)
Hi! We are really not. I am, a little, but I am not really good at it. My husband hates doing stuff--my dad always did everything and now, I look at my husband and say "why can't you?" Very mean, I suppose, but I just thought everyone did these things. Meanwhile, my husband's like, "why can't we just get it done?" My mom says I'm lucky, that she wishes my dad would leave things alone! lol.
We 'try' and do stuff ourselves. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it makes it worse, lol.
Always trying to save money, and sometimes it shows in the end result, lol.
I like the satisfaction of doing a project all ourselves, but I can feel the "I'm over it" thought crowding my brain these days. We started our master bathroom remodel 13 months ago. Um, yeah, not finished yet. Stinks sharing a bathroom with the kids.
Generally we are DIY'ers too. It is so hard to find the time though! We usually hire out some harder plumbing or electrical and try to do everything else ourselves. Sometimes it's trial and error! Good luck!
We DIY when it is something easy. Most of the things with our older house are out of our comfort zone. I leave building computers from scratch to hubby ;)
I wish I was but I'm not. At all.
We try to do most things ourselves, but sometimes only a pro can do it right.
While I type this Hubby is out trying to get some of our drainage ditches cleaned out. I would say that we do everything we can but there are definitely some things that we call the pros for! Like pumping out my septic tank.
I love to say that my husband reminds me of Cliff Huxtable. haha, a handy man, but if something can go wrong, it will go wrong!! haha I am a nervous wreck when he gets some big project in his head.
Last weekend, he moved the thermostat and went up in the attic for 2 straight days taping off holes in the duct work (we had a brilliant builder, apparently). I was OK w/ the attic stuff, but over his shoulder then entire time w/ the thermostat... I could just see leaving him for a few minutes and coming back to a huge hole in the wall. haha
Love my hubby, and glad he is a DIY guy, but whoa, does it make me nervous sometimes!! LOL
I would love to see pics of your house before and after... I've heard you talk so much about the remodeling you've done - would love to see it!! Or have you posted it before and I just missed it?
I loooove DIY! Except when it comes to our house. I watch so much HGTV, I was convinced that when we bought our home, we could remodel everything ourselves. Well, we lost steam and I'm sitting in an incomplete house. LOL! Never again, I say!
As a general rule hubby and I can't do home improvement projects together. It's cheaper to just pay someone to do the project then to pay for the therapy for us and our daughter.
On my own, no way. But I love helping with guidance :)
Oh I wish it was but I generally pay for everything to be fixed LOL. Thanks for stopping by my playground. Much appreciated :) Aloha
My husband is and he does very well at it.
I am the opposite! Not handy at all!
It actually works out quite well...Ha! Ha!
We are both. We don't usually pay someone but we do usually get help from his cousin who knows how to do a lot of stuff.
We probably could be, but also, just never seem to have the time to do much of anything!
Yes we are a DIY family :) It's good for us.
Not really. I usually have every intention of doing something myself but lose interest pretty quickly.
