ALOHA FRIDAY!
Halloween is about a month away. I started looking and thinking about costumes back in August. One thing I do is procrastinate to the last possible minute for Halloween costumes. Every year I freak out because I can’t find the costume that Luke wants to be. Last year we made our Sponge Bob costume and we were up (OK my husband was up, I quit at midnight) almost all night finishing it for school the next day. Click if you feel like checking out last years home made Sponge Bob costume.
This year we have known for a while now and I still have not made the purchase. Luke wants to be Indiana Jones, I hate the costume and want to find the various elements instead of buying the costume. Thomas loves to pretend to be a puppy so that was an easy choice. I found a really cute puppy costume but it costs way too much money. I found one at Target that is not as cute but much cheaper. I just find that my lack of ability to make a choice and buy the darn thing is what causes me to end up on the short end of things each year.

(LUKE, AGE 2)Have you already bought your kids Halloween costumes?
If they are grown and don’t dress up anymore did you always buy them early or last minute? Oh and when I say early I am thinking before October.
I swear everyone buys them early and is why I end up in the same dilemma each and every year.
(LUKE, AGE 3)Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life.

Love that train/engineer costume!
Yes, I have Joseph's costume already. I had a coupon at Old Navy, so it only cost $17 and he is too young to have any say in what he is! :)
Wow, all your costumes look great. That Sponge Bob is amazing!
I'm guilty of waiting until the last minute. I love Halloween and used to love to dress up, but my grandmother was a drama teacher and we had this old trunk full of wigs, hats, clothes, props, etc. We got really creative...and my mom could sew. Me, I'm terrible and don't even own a sewing machine. The store bought costumes just aren't as cool, in my opinion.
Last year my daughter wanted to be a ghost. I managed that one ok. My son was a firefighter and had this awesome genuine looking costume my father had bought him for play. My youngest was a pumpkin...at one year old that worked ok. This year, I'm on the hunt for a princess and warrior. Not sure about little man yet. I have been looking, but have not bought anything yet.
No
We have not got the kids a costume yet but will within the next week or two.
Happy Friday!
I love the pictures! And, the story from last year is fantastic. Your husband sounds so funny--It IS cute that he wants "things to be right" for his guys, though. rotfl. My dad used to tell my brothers to go dress like army guys or robbers--whatever they could find in their closets! I have to admit, I'm more that way with my boys, too...but now that I have a little girl, I've put more effort in, because she cares. I really love hearing about these two boys!
I haven't bought them yet. I really should though huh?
My boys are far too old, but I never bought a Halloween costume. We always there something together at the last minute.
I usually try to buy them early but I'm feeling stuck this year -- not much in the budget for these kinds of extras! So I'm trying to get creative which is kind of funny when you think about the fact that I can't sew and have no fashion/costume sense whatsoever :-)
No I have not bought costumes for my kids before. I've been thinking of something nice for the kids, but with $$ I don't think I will be getting them any costumes.
No kids yet but as a kid, we always went out and bought costumes early. We never dared to try and make our own costumes.
I love the train engineer!! I am making my kid's costumes and haven't started yet. I hope I can get them done in time!
We never buy early... maybe like a week or two before. When I was little, we always had to make our own costumes. My dad must have been cheap, ha! This year, Josh will probably want to be something that will scare the younger kids outta their ever lovin' minds (just like last year). Jonah is harder... he is still at the point that he will just about wear anything you put on him as long as it isn't smothering him or too tight on his head. Monkey costume (the hat piece) last year was a no-go for the first 20 minutes, then he settled down and had fun with it. I was sweating it - didn't think I'd get any cute pictures with him wearing it. Not sure what he'll be there year... maybe a pirate, or a dog, or a pumpkin - my sister made this suggestion the other day when he was wearing an orange shirt, and said, "Oh, orange is his color and with those cheeks, he could DEFINITELY pull off a pumpkin costume this year!" LOL, maybe she's right. We'll see. =)
Cute customs Luke has! We usually get it a week or two before Halloween.
I haven't yet! I need to get on that, thanks for the reminder!
We have been looking for costumes already but not bought. I usually look to eBay for them as they are usually much cheaper!
Love the Thomas the Train one!
First, I checked out the Sponge Bob costume. It looked fantastic!!!
Second, we decided about 2 years ago that all the kids would be various characters from the Wizard of Oz. Cute right? Well, the only child who was really excited about it was my oldest daughter. My little 4 year-old saw a transformer costume in the store and really really really wanted to be that. It was only $12 and I thought, he should be able to be excited about his costume. So ... I let him choose that. Then, my younger two daughters became very excited to dress up as babies. Again, very inexpensive too. My oldest son is going to be a Mummy. That leaves the oldest daughter; she is very disappointed that no one else went along with the scheme since she'd been planning on it for a while. I feel badly for her, honestly. I don't think she has any idea what she is going to be yet. I only have the one costume yet. I like to be done with the costumes by now but it didn't work out this year.
I like the Indiana Jones costume too. But it definitely is better if you buy the pieces separate. Good luck!
I am trying to decide what I am going to do for halloween this year. Marlee is still so little, I don't know if I want to shell out the money for a costume.
