SAVING ENERGY

Aloha!

Another Friday and an especially good one since it is a long holiday weekend. I am hoping all of you will get to enjoy your Labor Day.

So my Question:
Who is the "ENERGY POLICE" in your house?
What I mean is who is always patrolling the lights, doors, running water in your home to keep the utility costs down?

Unfortunately I have assumed that role in my house. So I get to be the mean person who yells because the door is standing wide open and we are cooling the outside. Or someone left the light on in the bathroom. Who am I kidding, they leave every light on in this house.

I believe I inherited this "Energy Police" role from my father. When I was a kid all I could ever remember was hearing things like

"Close that door, were you born in a bar?"
"Turn that light off."
"You don't need these lights on."

All things I hated hearing as a kid and yet I am saying them all the time.

I was really hoping my husband would assume this role because he is as bad as the kids. I have been making him pay the electric bill in hopes that he would see it has lots of room for improvement. I guess he doesn't see what I see. Nothing has changed!!!

Oh well off to deal with light switches and open doors. LOL.....

Play along at
An Island Life for Aloha Friday. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life.

Actually Hubby is. He drives me nuts though since during the day I only am on the computer. I never really turn on anything else that is electrical & yet I hear how bad our electric bill is. Am I the only one living here?!

Yep, that's me. Our first apartment was so small that we usually needed most of the lights on...there just weren't enough rooms for us to have an empty one. Now that we're in a much bigger apartment, it's become a part of my routine to flip lights off that are left on. Ok, fine, usually I'm the one that has left them on, but at least I remember to turn them off before too long!

My hubby. I'm usually too busy with other things to notice.

We both monitor when the kids do stuff like leaving all the lights on in the house, but overall hubs is the policer. He has nothing better to do than freak out over how long the AC has been on or how long the lights, and which lights have been on. I care, just not as much as he does. Plus I'm the one home all day and just because it has been on since he came home at 8pm, does not mean that I have had it on all day. Something I must explain over and over again...

Oh that is totally me. I am constantly nagging at everyone and making them crazy about lights, water, computers etc. You'd think they'd get tired of my nagging and do it themselves lol

Sometimes I do, but my hubby does ALL THE TIME. Our son is bad about leaving every light in the house on along with his tv, computer etc.

I am. I've been that way ever since a school project =)

That's funny.

I do it around here because I pay the bills. I keep the air conditioner not quite as cool as my hubby would like (especially during the day; I turn it up more when he gets home) and the heater not quite as warm.

The thing with lights is that I love natural light. I HATE artificial light. I prefer the lights to be off until it's obvious that we need them on. But my kids and hubby turn on all the lights and never turn them off. I'm constantly turning lights off. But I don't make a big deal about it. I just do it. :)

I tend to be the one that goes around closing lights. Of course, we have a few that remain on all the time with some of the new low energy bulbs.

That would be me! I am constantly turning things off behind the kids.

We all are, since my boys are older teens and are well versed in conservation.

I'm that person because I see and pay the monthly electric bill.

Have a great Friday!

I for sure am the energy police! Always messing with the thermostat in the winter! My 3 year old thinks that if a room is even in shadows he has to have the light on, we are working on "turn it off when you leave the room"!
Have a great long weekend too!!

I'm the energy captain. I take charge on all that stuff. I even unplug unused lamps, appliances, etc. It saves. Thanks for your comment. I loved collecting Barbies. One of the many things I will miss out on having a son. Aloha and take care.

Definitely my husband. If it were up to me, the AC would run 24/7!

Both me and Daddy patrol these things regularly, although it's mostly me. He's bad about the lights.

Oh I def. am! It's a silly job, but someone's gotta do it! LOL

I'd like to think I'm good about it, but I sneak in and turn up/down the ac/heat. Otherwise, I'm really careful!!

I"m the energy saving police in this house. Dh doesn't get it. The kids will by the time they grow up.

I grew up in a country and did without all this so it comes naturally to me and I see waste easily like letting the faucet run or leaving lights on in the kitchen when no one is in there etc. etc.
