My boys are all boy and rough housing is very natural for them. With my two boys I have had no doubt that a few emergency room trips would take place at some point in the future. I had no idea that our first one would happen this soon.
Last night I am trying to put both my boys to bed. Neither of them are cooperative because we were babysitting my nieces and nephew. So I have the boys in their room, Thomas in his bed and Luke not in his. They both want a drink so I head downstairs to get a drink for them. I then hear Thomas crying really hard and as I enter the room Luke is hiding under his blanket.
Instantly my reaction is WHAT DID YOU DO? First response from Luke was nothing. As Thomas cries I ask again, what did you do? Then I get the response "I pulled his arm through the bed rails." Thomas will not stop crying and you can not move his arm with out major screams. We go sit on the bed and I try to calm him and figure out if he is going to be OK. Thomas calms down but only if you would hold very still. The moment we moved his arm he would begin to cry again. At this point we new it was time to take a trip to the emergency room. Before we could go we had to wait 15 minutes for my in-laws to show up to get the kids. My mother-in-law stayed at our house so that Luke could stay home and go to bed.
Off we went to the ER of the Children's Hospital. Of course at 9:30 at night it is crazy busy and lots of sick coughing children. Not really where I want to be but we had no choice.
The hospital was great and moved us almost instantly into a room. I was so thankful to be out of the waiting area where I felt like germs were just everywhere begging to make us all sick.
Finally around midnight when the doctor came to see us he said it was probably Nurse Maid elbow, basically Thomas elbow was pulled out of socket. He twisted his are from side to side for about a minute popping it back into place. He left and came back with a Popsicle for Thomas and instantly Thomas held his hurt arm up read to take the popsicle. We were as good as new.
I was so thankful to see it all went OK. Having two boys, I have no doubt this will be my last trip either.

About Me
- Nina
- Hi I am Nina! OK Nina is a nickname but I doubt you really care. I am 35 years old, married, two wonderful boys. Luke is my sweet gentile 6 year old and Thomas is my wild and crazy 2 year old. The two of the wear me out but I love everything about them. I hope you enjoy all our crazy adventures as much as we do.

12 Comments Welcome:
Oh boy, poor little guy and Mama too! Last Friday I took my 2 year old right from my older son's school to the ER. He face planted into the concrete and scared all of us. This was his 4th visit to the ER, pulling him ahead of his 6 year old brother. Oy, never a dull moment with little boys. I hope your visits stay away for quite some time.
OMG, I don't know how you did it. My stomach got weak just reading about it, let alone having to witness it. My husband would have had to take Jonah to the ER, I would have passed clean out.
I'm so glad he's OK. Wow, that sounded SOOOOO painful. =(
Oh man! Glad to hear it was fairly easy to take care of! I so hear you on the boy thing though, I too am afraid! We have only had 1 black eye and 1 black fingernail (that just recently came off, yuck!).
Daughter hasn't had anything like that...go figure.
Thank goodness it wasn't broken!! Yes, kids sometimes accidentally cause harm to one another! I don't like the ER either. I always feel like I could get sick just from being there. They should have an ER for sick people and an ER for broken bones and cuts and things that are not contagious! I'm glad your little guy is as good as new!
So happy to know everything turned out good! Elijah broke his leg in 07 after going down a slide with his Dad. That was like the worst day of my life, watching my baby be in pain. I am so not look forward to any more ER visits!
Scary! I'm glad that Thomas is doing okay now!
I'm so glad he is alright now and I'm glad it wasn't worse. I notice my children are the same way, even though it's a boy and a girl! It really freaks me out.
Oh, I'm really glad that he's ok! I suspect that we'll be making a lot of trips to the ER with our little guy -- Mac. He has no fear -- sigh.
Poor guy! That is great to hear he didn't break it or something worse! Although, it still sounds painful. Hope all of you sleep well tonight!
Poor little thing!!! It must have been horrible for all of you! I'm glad he's ok now!
I feel for ya! Glad it went pretty smoothly!
As to your comment on my blog~ we wouldn't turn on our heater yet, if it was just Mike and I, but with Marlee, I have to keep her warm and she doesn't keep the covers on her all night, so we had to turn on the heater. Up until today, we had been turning it off during the day, but it was COLD today and is now snowing again! UGH!
only for a layover! Beach is always great for a weekend getaway!!
