Babies First Birthday (The Big # 1)

Yesterday my baby turned 1. It was a wonderful first birthday and this is my tribute to his special day.

Your brother was the first one to tell you happy birthday and it just melted my heart the way Luke ran into the room and said happy birthday to you. We then went to church where everyone sang happy birthday to you and you just smiled and had no clue what was really going on. All the older ladies ooh and awed at the fact that you were already a year old.

That afternoon you had your first birthday party. Mostly family and a couple friends were in attendance. We tried to keep it small but that is hard with the size of our family. You had a little anxiety at first and wouldn’t leave my arms but you eventually got over it and were off playing with all the other kids.

You tried to stick you figures into the large cake long before we gave you your little cake. You dipped your head down into the little cake and made everyone laugh. You came up with a big smile and then were afraid to do anything else with the cake. It didn’t take long and you dived right in and loving that sweet stuff.

We opened present and you were not very interested. I believe you were a little confused by all the people watching you. All the bigger kids were stealing your new toys right after you opened them and you were getting a little mad when something seemed fun and then it was being snatched from you. It wasn’t long and they all went home and you and your big brother tested out all the new toys and were having a good time playing together.

The part of the day I loved the most was that today, on your birthday you decided you were going to walk. For the past couple weeks you have been taking two and three steps at a time and falling down. You were never really determined to walk because crawling seemed to do the trick for you just fine. But on this special day you were taking many steps all around the house. Rarely did I see you crawling anywhere because each time you fell down you got back up to try again. It was one more sign that I new my baby was turning into a toddler and growing up way to fast.

Aloha Friday #3 (My Babies Birth)

Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question for you……..
I guess this question is for all the moms. Did you have an easy birth or was it a complicated one?

I ask this questions this week because my baby is about to turn one on Sunday and I have been thinking back to last year at this time.
First off I wasn't due until November 8th but I really was expecting to go sooner just because I did with my first child. It was a Friday and I went to work like any other day. Around 2 in the afternoon while sitting at my desk my water breaks. It did not gush right away so I wasn't sure at first. I rushed to the bathroom to check and just as I sat on the toilet the flood gates opened. Now I was certain my water just broke.

My boss drove me to the hospital. He told me not to go into labor during rush hour and it was pretty much getting close to Friday afternoon rush hour. Just as expected traffic sucked and all I kept thinking is don't let me get stuck on the high way and have to have my boss do this baby thing. Oh lord that would not be good. I am pretty sure he was feeling the same way.

All is good and 40 minutes later we arrive at the hospital. I got my husband their only to here him say oh this is going to be a while I, I had to to have a beer with the guys before I came. He was kidding but I wasn't laughing.
Now onto the birth. I am a no pain kind of girl so I am all about the epidural. This is a full moon Friday night and of course no births in the hospital are going right. I was told by the doctor that she had a C-section to do and would be back later. They had only one guy on duty to do my epidural and he is doing the c-section. This is not OK with me because if I miss my window of opportunity I am going to be one mad girl. The nurse checks me and says oh you are coming along fast. How long did it take you to have your first child, oh about 6 hours from the time my water broke to delivery. Oh... says the nurse. It is now about 6 in the evening and 4 hours have already pasted. She is doing the math and telling me I should lay down or that baby is going to come quicker than they want it to. They ended up calling someone else in to do my epidural and that slowed things way down. Now it is a waiting game. If I wouldn't have had the epidural I probably would have had him before 7 that night but everything slowed way down and it was 10 PM and the doctors came in and started the pushing process. All went great and I was the only normal, uncomplicated birth they had all day long.

My beautiful baby boy came out healthy and one loud crier. I didn't get to spend but a few moments with him since his body was to cold and they wanted to get his temperature up. This made me sad but a few hours later my baby was all mine and I have held him close ever since.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen toys I will most likely trip on, slip on or step on before the day is over….

1. A Thomas the train or one of his one hundred friends.
2. The endless train track that scales through every room in the down stairs.
3. Some spike tailed dinosaur lying in the middle of the toy room.
4. The Lego’s that are scattered endlessly around the house
5. The magic markers that have rolled off the dining room table and onto the floor.
6. The match box cars that will send me sailing flat on my you know what…
7. The over sized dump truck, digger and bull dozer all made of metal and killer on the toes when you kick them by mistake while walking through the house.
8. The story books scattered around the floor of the couch.
9. The DVD’s and Video games scattered in front of the TV
10. The Play Station game controllers that are hanging out of the entertainment center.
11. The mega blocks that are great for slipping on and forcing you to find your inner balance.
12. The alphabet refrigerator magnets that never stay on the fridge, I swear those things multiply
13. Finally the large tricycle that I will kick and smash my toe on as I make my way to bed in the dark.

So is your house as bad as mine? What toy ticks you off the most when stepping or slipping on it because it was left in the middle of the room.

Our Wild & Crazy Dogs

Before we had kids we had two dogs. These dogs are spoiled just like our children. We have Lexis our golden retriever and Mercedes is our yellow Labrador retriever. Yes I know my dogs are named after cars, my husbands doing. It is a miracle my kids aren’t also named after cars. I am shocked my boys are not named Audi, Saab or some other crazy car name.

Our dogs are spoiled just like the kids and treated just like big babies. However these big babies are the most destructive little monsters I know.

First there is Lexis our first born. She was the cute puppy that we always wanted. Or so we thought…hehe

I think this dog waits 30 seconds before we pull out of the driveway and she is off looking for trouble. She will take dishes out of the sink, off of the counter, chew up kids toys and eat anything that she can. We joke and say she has retractable paws because I don’t have a clue how she can reach half the stuff she manages to get. Just when you think it is put up…think again.

Last night we went to the grocery store and while we were gone someone didn’t close the cabinet door that holds the trash can. Trash was spread from the kitchen to the living room and everything from diapers to licked clean food packages were everywhere. The dog was no where to be found. She was hiding in the office under the desk. As I walked around calling for her I could here her tail flapping on the floor. She new she was in serious trouble.

The dog has a conscious about doing bad things but still does them anyway. You always know when she has done something bad because she will not greet you at the door when you come home if she has done something wrong. Instead you walk in and she is hiding under the dining room table flapping her tail waiting for her punishment.

Now Mercedes was not a planned dog. My in-laws lab got pregnant and we said we would take a puppy but only if she had a yellow female. Mom was chocolate and dad was a black lab. Of course she has 5 black puppies and one yellow female. Darn the luck! So we took her thinking it would be a good idea to give Lexis a play mate. If only I had known….

Mercedes is also the tattle tail for Lexis. When we get home we just know she is at the window barking and saying I didn’t do it. She did it and I am tattling now so that I don’t get into trouble also. It is funny to think what she is trying to tell us about Lexis.

Mercedes also thinks she is a cat. She is my 65 lb dog/cat. She climbs into people’s laps. She also gets on top of my dinning room table. Why she does this I will never understand. She also sleeps on the back of the couch just like a cat would. She must have been a cat in another life.

Mercedes also loves socks. She doesn’t chew up socks, she eats whole socks. The dog will eat mine and the kid’s socks in one swallow. The back yard is littered in socks as she deposits them into the yard. I spend a lot of money on socks. I think I buy a pack or two every couple months. We keep them picked up, and in the laundry but she still finds them and eats them. I think the kids can take off their socks and it can sit for two seconds and then she scoops it up and it is gone in one large gulp.

We always say we need to video tape them when we are not home. I could easily win America’s Funniest Home Videos with these two. That would be nice. Then they could repay me for all the money I have spent replacing shoes, socks, sippy cups, baby bottles, and toys over the past 7 years.

I am amazed they have survived the past 7 years. One because I have wanted to kill them on many occasions and the stuff they get into and eat can not be good for them. Of course you look at their cute faces and think how can I stay mad at them....

I could blog all day about my dogs and their bad habits. Do you have any pets? Do they have any bad habits? Are you willing to admit to their bad habits…LOL
