WHY DO YOU FOLLOW?

ALOHA FRIDAY # 31

My question this week:

Why do you choose to be a follower on a blog?
Do you comment on the blogs you follow, how often?

Almost daily I go into my blogger dashboard and check out the list of blogs I follow. I like doing it this way because I can see who has a new post, a little bit about it and it helps me decided if I want to read more. I have several blogs that I read every post they make because I love their blogs and I do follow others that I only read on occasion. If I have a blog in my list that I have stopped reading for a while I remove them.

One reason I choose to follow other blogs is because of the interaction. I really like the interaction I have between other bloggers and getting to know them through reading, commenting and the comments they leave.

I use to follow any blog that started following mine. I quickly learned that I think many people fill up their following list but they visit once or twice and never return. I stopped this because as I said I value the interaction so if I really like your blog, our blogs are similar in nature and we start having regular interaction, I become a follower.

I have also stopped following many blogs because I read, comment, read, comment and they just stop interacting with me through my blog.

I hate to say it but I have deleted many from my followers list because they stop talking to me. Some of them had really good blogs but I like the interaction just as much as reading a good blog so I typically will remove someone from my list because they stop talking with me. Sometimes it makes me feel like a teenager having a bad breakup. LOL… Don’t get me wrong, interaction is not a requirement by any means but it is something I value. I do have a few blogs I do follow and they rarely ever comment on my blog however I don’t visit their blogs all the time either just on occasion.

I guess you could say I would rather have quality over quantity any day. All I can say is the interaction is what I value the most and it can be once a week or once a month but it is what I value with the blogs I follow. It just seems like I have really gotten to know so many bloggers on a whole other level that would have never happened had we not commented so regularly with each other.

Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

I know what you mean Nina, I too follow people so I can keep up with them and know when they post a new post but I don't like people to say they follow me if they really don't.
Hope you have a great weekend!

Very nice post! I agree with the interaction part, that is why I follow many blogs. I also have a second catagory of giveaway blogs I follow. Funny but the two do end up overlapping.
Have a great Friday!

I follow probably about 20 blogs? I actually just unsubscribed to a few this morning. Hard to do, but I was just never reading them.

I comment on most of them- but a lot of the blogs I follow have like 500 followers, so I usually don't comment on those ones.

Have a great weekend!

I could totally get wrapped up in this blog world and forget that my real life exists... so I regularly have to reevaluate what blogs I'm following and am I giving or getting anything from the relationship... friendship, advice, normalization of my experiences etc. The bloggers I follow are mostly the ones that I have developed a friendship with. And I'm so grateful for these bloggy friends :) (You included!)

I get what you are saying... I like the interaction, too. If you follow everyone you ever visit, you end up taking on more than you can even keep up with. It's hard for me now to keep up with my list since I changed jobs, but I do try. And those I follow are ones that I do enjoy reading. When I do get the time, I read all the posts I've missed since my last visit to the blog (and try to comment on all of them). My comments might be a week old from teh day they posted, but better late than never, eh?! =)

I will say you are one of my very favorites!! You always make me laugh and I can relate to your stories so much. So if you don't hear from me for a while, just know I will be coming back to catch up from where I left off to the present.

Also, the comments you leave me are great too - you always crack me up! I love it!! =)

There are a few reasons I follow blogs. Some I just follow and don't comment on - I just want to stay current on articles that might be posted.

Some I follow to get ideas for projects and will submit questions to the author on how to make or grow something.

Some I follow because they are friends and I want to stay in touch.

The rest are for social and support purposes. It's a nice way to connect with folks around the globe who share common interests. The ones I want to have a dialog with I will comment on their blogs. I enjoy the back and forth discussion.

Happy Mother's Day and have a great weekend!

I also try to follow people who have blogs I'll check often. Due to moving into another house and my computer hard drive crashing, I haven't been online much at all for the last 2 months, but my computer is fixed now (as of today) and I'm all moved in so I'll be able to get back to reading and commenting again. YEA!!!

First, following makes keeping up on the blogs you want to read very easy. I love how the new posts show up on the blog roll. I don't really follow blogs if they aren't on my blog roll because I don't know if when I go there there will be something new or not.

I like to follow blogs that are done by people talking about their lives. I prefer happy family people. Real people. But I don't just follow people with families. I like getting a glimpse of someone else's take on their life experience. It helps me to get outside of myself, see things from another perspective, become aware of a life that is not my own.

I try not to follow too many blogs because I like to actually be able to respond and take an interest.

Hmmmm, you wrote about what I've been thinking about...LOL. I like the interaction as well. If I follow a blog that has a ton(hundreds) of followers- I don't usually comment. I've found that I've formed friendships through the back/forth comment interaction. I appreciate comments and love when someone chooses to follow my blog..I think, fun-a new friend. :)

Though-believe it or not,I almost removed my followers widget recently ;)
