I am so thrilled today because I just made my last car payment. My little black SUV is now mine, all mine.
There are really great incentives to buy a new car right now but I have no plans to buy anything new because honestly I don’t want a car payment anymore. Plus my car isn’t even 4 years old yet, I just hit 50,000 miles and it is in great condition. We should have a few more good years of use out of this thing.
This is my second new car that I have ever bought and the first one that I have paid for in full.
Before my little black SUV I had this super cute Acura RSX-S that I just loved. I bought this new car right after I got my first job out of collage and before I had kids. The day I picked this car up from the dealer it had 3 miles on it. It was brand spanking new! I spent months working with dealers trying to get this car and got it exactly the way I wanted it. I loved this little car! It was blue, a 6 speed manual stick shift, all leather, super nice and just so much fun to drive. I had every plan to pay it off and keep it for a long time and then I had Luke.
Can I just say sporty little 2 door cars are not cohesive with kids? First, shoving Luke’s pumpkin seat between the seat and the door was a major challenge every single time. Then we stopped carrying the seat and trying to put him in it was a challenge. I always had to climb into the back seat just to get him in and out of the car. After a couple years and multiple times of me banging his little head on the ceiling of the car I decided that was enough.
Time to grow up, blah, blah, blah….and get something more practical. I needed something that was more kid friendly and 4 doors.
So I traded in my little sporty blue car for my Mercury Mariner SUV. It has all wheel drive which I love especially in the winter but other than that it is pretty plain Jane. My biggest regret was letting my husband talk me out of spending the extra money on leather seats. Instead I have tan cloth seats, did I mention the TAN part. Very, very bad choice with kids!
All in all I am happy today because I am free of car payments, I will have a few extra hundred dollars in my pocket each month and that is exciting.
Now I am just praying nothing goes wrong. No accidents, no falling apart, none of that is allowed. Trust me, my car history has not been good between totaling cars and problem cars…. Lets just say I have a bad history. But this is a history with used cars so I am hopeful with my car.
Have you had a car that you just absolutely loved?

I used to love love love my car, then Mike and I got together, took it on a road trip, and we wrecked into a deer. We still have it, since it was paid off, and stuff, but man o man, is it a crappy car now! I can't wait til we can get a new car, we have a new truck, so we need to get that paid for (or at least closer to being paid for) before we can get another car.
I did...my Prius. But we recently sold it. :(
Congrats! That sounds liek a great feeling to get rid of payments! Smart lady:)
Thanks! I did make that bag. I didn't really think someone would pay 60 for a bag like that...I guess because I am kinda cheap when it comes to bags/purses...it cost me around 80 to make, but that was cause I bought high priced fabric, and also had to pay for the class to learn how to make it.
So why don't you use your bag that you bought? I will probably use mine for a diaper bag soon...I am waiting until I have to actually start packing things like toys and stuff for Marlee before I switch. My other bag is smaller, and is great...its just not gonna hold as much stuff.
Anyhow, have a great day!
Oh, I am so with you about just loving the car we have. My minivan has been paid off for several years now and even though it would be nice to have a brand new car ... I think I love not having car payments the most! My car is at 116000 miles right now and I'm hoping it makes it to at least 200000. I'd be OK with 300000. Just think of all the money I would be saving? :)
Wow that is fantastic news! Congratulations.
And I do love my truck. 4WD 2500 3/4 ton...whoooo
Congrats on paying off your vehicle! I love it when I get a debt paid off... it feels so freeing! We drive cheap vehicles, so no car payments, but we're still chipping away at student loans. I'm within a year of paying my last one off and then I'm hoping to knock off a few of Peanut-lover's smaller ones before he finishes school and has to start paying them back.
I love our current vehicle, which we bought about a month ago: a Ford Escape. It's the most expensive vehicle we've ever had ($8000 instead of the usual $1000), but it's so nice to drive.
I also loved my first vehicle, a 1982 Chevette that I bought for $300 when I was 16.
