Aloha!
So it is Friday and I am exhausted from this week. Lets take it easy today and keep it simple, shall we.
Question: Do you use up or throw away majority of your leftovers? If you are successful at using your leftovers, how do you do it?
I feel like we waist so much food. We always have extra food left over after a meal. It will go in a pretty plastic container and then into the fridge, never to be seen again. OK it is seen again just sometimes it is unrecognizable (did I just admit that), but never found until I am cleaning out the fridge a couple weeks later. At that point everything ends up in the trash.
I always forget that we have stuff that needs to be used up. Then when I do think about it I find that it is no longer any good.
Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life.

About Me
- Nina
- Hi I am Nina! OK Nina is a nickname but I doubt you really care. I am 35 years old, married, two wonderful boys. Luke is my sweet gentile 6 year old and Thomas is my wild and crazy 2 year old. The two of them wear me out but I love everything about them. I hope you enjoy all our crazy adventures as much as we do.

24 Comments Welcome:
We don't have leftovers usually. But when we do, we eat them next day.
We end up wasting a lot!
use them up
I try to use leftovers, food is so expensive it upsets me to throw anything away. Usually, it is just re-warming them.
I have a human vacuum (son) who eats them before I can store them.
Have a great Friday!

My daughter has us menu planning and we tend to set aside meals that are specific for leftovers. We also take leftovers for lunch the next day.
When do have leftovers and we take them for lunch the next day or we'll recycle at the end of the week when I'm tired and don't feel like cooking. It's like a leftover buffet.

We usually just eat the leftovers.
Either I eat the leftovers for lunch or we'll sometimes have a leftover dinner. Everyone likes that one because there's always something that is someone's favorite.
My mil takes things that are leftover & makes "dump" soup. Sounds horrible but honestly it's one of the best things I've ever eaten & it's always different. I can't ever get it to go right though.
I try and freeze some of my leftovers and my husband takes the rest to work for lunch. If I have leftover meat I try and use it in cassaroles...but the key word is TRY lol I have a hard time finding recipies that are tasty
Usually we eat all our leftovers. My husband won't waste anything - his parents are from the WWII Depression Era so that's just how he grew up. Sometimes I make him take it for lunch if it's something we won't eat at home. I also try to build in a "left-over" night so we don't have to cook. With toddlers, though, there is always some waste.
I eat left overs for lunch, and sometimes we have left overs for dinner...but it has to be something my hubby really likes! :)
My husband is really good about taking them to work the next day and often I eat them for lunch the next day too. Sometimes I plan several meals in a row that I know will produce a lot of leftovers and then on the 4th night we have leftover night. Otherwise, I forget they are in the fridge and then end up wasted. I always feel badly when I find a tupperware with something that had once been perfectly yummy that I forgot was there and ended up moldy!!!

i save the leftovers but they hardly get eaten. :(
I force myself to use them the very next day!
We do not usually have a ton of leftovers. When we do they are usually for lunch the next day or dinner. We use them up quickly so they are not wasted.
I'm anal about using up leftovers or I"ll feel too guilty if its wasted. I've also begun not cooking anymore food until the leftovers are gone.
Usually reheating the leftovers taste even better as all the spices got to settle into the food etc.
And I think why I try so hard not to waste is; I can remember the days that all I had for many days to eat was bread, butter and water. And so I find it hard to waste food.
We try really hard to use up our leftovers for lunch the next day, but we end up wasting a lot unfortunately :(
We are great about eating up every single bit of leftovers -- that is one thing that I am always pleased about when it comes to our saving money -- leftovers almost never go to waste in our family :-)
Just found your blog...
LOVE IT!
but to answer your question...
I think for the majority, we eat the leftovers...My dad comes home for lunch, so he is good about finishing off whatever.
My husband is a human garbage disposal. He'll eat anything no matter how long it's been in the fridge! LOL!
I am totally lucky that Hubby will eat up all the leftovers in the fridge! But it does seem like we waste a lot on the kid's plates that goes in the trash!
We waste a great deal too! grrr My kids are so picky.. Meat usually doesn't go to waste but pastas and vegies..well.. lol
