Aloha Friday #9

Play along at An Island Life for Aloha Friday. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. My question this week…..

What holiday tradition did your mom or dad do that you remember the most from your childhood? Have you carried on that tradition?

My mom was one who made the holidays magical. She loved to decorate and as a child I always remember her getting stencils out and decorating the windows for the holidays. At Christmas time she would put the fake snow spray on the windows and stencil in snowmen and trees. The house was head to toe Christmas from the tree to the stocking it was great. It just made the holidays seem that much more exciting. I also remember her cleaning the house top to bottom every Christmas Eve. I understand now why she did that, and it was because my grandma came over on Christmas morning to watch us open presents.

As for my traditions, I am afraid I am not my mom and I don’t have that decorating touch. I have decided this year I am going to try to put a little more effort into my decorating. I bought some window decals that peal and stick, I am looking for stencils to also decorate. Luke and I will use one of our half days off together to decorate. I want my kids to remember the things I did on the holidays like I remember my mom. I do clean my house top to bottom on Christmas Eve also because now my parents come over on Christmas morning to watch my kids open their presents.
I sometimes wonder if my mom knows how great of an impression she made on us kids during the holidays.

Thursday Thirteen #4

Thirteen things I love about Luke, my 5 year old son.

1. His big beautiful blue eyes. He has eye lashes that any girl would kill for.

2. The wonderful hugs and kisses I get from him all the time.

3. The way he runs to the window each morning at latch-key to give me just one more wave good bye with a big smile.

4. His toothless smile that he currently has.

5. The way he negotiates just one more bite of his food at the diner table each night.

6. His excitement about even the small stuff.

7. The energy he has, the kid could out run the energizer bunny.

8. The affection he shows towards his baby brother just melts my heart.

9. Watching him and his brother play so well together. They are so fun to watch.

10. When he yells at me because he is tired and then he cries when I tell him he is tired and this just upsets him more.

11. How smart he is at everything he does. He is such a bright kid and so far it all comes easy for him.

12. His innocent and pure faith in God. A blessing that I truly appreciate.

13. How he tells me he will stay my little boy forever.
