OH NO SHE DIDN'T

I live in an old house and old houses seem to go hand-in-hand with mice. We have had at least one or two mice every winter for the last eight years we have lived here. Part of it is we have old stone foundation with lots of cracks and mice can squeeze through very tiny place, second we live with a huge field behind our house so they are inevitable.

Recently I was just boasting about how we have not had a mouse this year. This makes me really happy because I hate seeing evidence of a mouse in my house. Droppings are always my first warning... YUCK!!!! Time to set a trap.

Today, my stupid dog is trying to dig something out of my bathroom closet. We have the dog food bin right near their so I just assumed she was trying to get a dropped piece of dog food. Guess again....

Instead, I go walking through my living room and see her sitting on my area rug with a dead mouse. (I should look on the bright side at least she wasn't on my sofa with it) I see this and just hope as I walk up closer to her it isn't what I think it is but it is. First I am mad because it is just little Thomas and me at home. I can't have my 2 year old clean up the dead mouse and that just leaves me. I don't like living mice but dead ones gross me out even more. Especially after my dog has slobbered all over it as well. I am sure I am giving you all this great visual, sorry!

I get my dust pan and my little wisk broom and flip it into the dust pan. Then I spray my carpet with lots of carpet cleaner and vacuum. Mouse good and one dog literally in the dog house.

I took a picture but decided you all really did not want to see my dead mouse. Funny thing is I look at the picture and it is so tiny yet grosses me out so much.

Instead my little Thomas picked up my camera and took a picture of me as I am taking out the trash of the dead mouse. Go figure, he takes a good picture at the worst possible moment. Don't let the smile fool you, I wasn't happy just putting on a happy face for my little guy.

Why does stuff like this have to happen to me???? Can you handle a dead mouse?

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW

I can't tell everyone how much I am sick of the snow this year. A typical winter around here we will get hit with snow (couple inches) and then it will melt away before we get anymore.

This winter we have had three back-to-back snow storms bringing anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow each time. Luke's school is only one of very few in the area that hasn't maxed out snow days yet but they only have one left and we have a month to go.

We were supposed to get hit yesterday with another snow storm with possible accumulations of 12 inches however the temperatures were above freezing so we just had rain. YEAH!

I say yeah only because my porch finally clear of snow, the walk way has widened and my drive way has only a touch of snow still left on it.

I have not been in a picture taking mood lately so I have no pictures of my boys helping shovel snow or play in it. (Yes, I know bad mom).

I will leave you with these pictures from 2004 about 4 days before Christmas. We were slammed with a huge snow storm that year. This is Luke at the age of 2 out digging in the snow just loving it.

We actually had to go out our back-door after this storm because we could not get the front door open with the amount of snow that sat in front of it.

Anyway, this year has reminded me a bit of this snow storm. Not to say it was the same because we did not get this much snow all at one time just over the past three weeks with no chance for melting between each storm.

How is your weather this year? Anyone else ready for spring?

Luke's Art

My 7 year old brought this home from school yesterday. I sometimes wonder about this kid....

I had to laugh at his thought process. It says below "I am counting my muny (money).

Have your kids ever done something unexpected like this?

Valentines Day

We had another year and another valentines day has come and gone at my house.

My husband is so not the romantic type. I new this going into our relationship and I still married this man anyway. I guess since I new this I can't complain.

Saturday, my next door neighbor was out on the roof of his house spray painting a big red heart on his snow covered roof. OK I would have yelled at my husband for doing something foolish, but how cute. My husband sees what my neighbor does and comes inside and say's "our neighbor must still love his wife".... yes this is what I put up with.

My husband finds it more fun to poke fun at love and our relationship than to ever profess his love. He doesn't mean he doesn't love me he just would never do anything like this and he thinks it is very gross. I would say he is more like an 8 year old boy who finds girls gross or at least anything romantic is considered gross.

With that said, valentines day came and went and nothing romantic took place in our house. Typical but just once it would be nice to be surprised.

We did however host a beautiful valentines day lunch at our Church yesterday. The kids hosted it and we all had a wonderful time.

How was your valentines day?

Oh and remember my post on all the things that have been breaking and going wrong in my house, I woke up Friday to find my ruby has fallen out of my wedding band wrap. Yep... the hits keep come.

AND THEY KEEP COMING

Why is it when you have a plane to put X # of dollars away per pay check for the next couple months so you can get that new door for the front of the house that I want so.... bad that everything seems to go wrong.

First my electric oral-b toothbrush stopped working. OK use a regular toothbrush and all will be fine. I have tried that but after using an electric one for so long I just don't feel like my teeth are getting clean. That will cost me $60 for a new one.

Second item would be my steam mop. Just stopped working mid-mop the other day. The light wont come on and it wont steam. I use my steam mop a lot so this also makes me mad. A new mop... $100.

Third item would be our insurance deductible after my husband got into a fender bender with his car. Cost.... $250

OK, things are supposed to go in threes but the problems just keep coming.

Fourth item, my two year old hit our one year "new" TV and busted the screen. Cost to fix $1100, or I can just buy a new one for about the same. It was not a very nice couple days in our house after this one happened. These new TV's are just not made for kids.

Fifth item, our furnace keeps shutting itself off. It will be working fine and then just shut off. I think, I hope, it is the digital thermostat that is the problem here and not the actual furnace. A few times we turn it on and off and it works again. Today it is being more stubborn and it is in the 20's outside. Currently running but I don't know for how long. Cost to fix.... I don't know yet but I am sure it wont be good.

So could anything else go wrong?????
