When they are little, Aloha Friday

Aloha Friday # 25

My question this week:

When your children were little what did you love most about that time and what about that time do you not miss?

I asked this question today because last night at 3:00 in the morning I am sitting up cuddling my 16 month old. I just hold and rock him and enjoy every moment of it even when I am exhausted. I enjoy it because I know this time will end before I know it. I like to just look down at his peaceful little face and snuggle him next to me and wish that moment would last forever. Now the part I really wish was over, the not sleeping all night long. He is just to old to be getting up every night still. I guess in some ways this is a contradiction because I love that time in the night but I am ready for him to sleep all night which will bring and end to our time at night.

Unusual Napping.... Wordfull Wednesday

This was Spring of 2006. We had just bought a new dog bed for one of the dogs. Luke wasn't sharing and put it on top of our bed and went to sleep. It was a really cute moment!!! I love catching stuff like this on camera.

Go visit Angie at 7 Clown Circus for more great Wordfull Wednesday post.

Choices

I have been going through a real personal struggle these days. For a little over a year now I have been teaching the Sunday school class at my church for the 3rd and 4th grade kids. It was one of those things I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do but I agreed to because no one else would step up to teach. Do I think I am a good teacher… not at all. It is one of those things I prepare my less each week from the teacher’s book and my class never goes as I hope. I always have ideas but some how they never turn out as planned with the kids. Some weeks I have just one kid and other weeks I will have two or three kids. When I just have one kid at a time I have a great class but I can’t do half of my activities because it requires multiple kids. All of the kids are really great kids but when you put them all together they do become troublesome and I loss control of my class. They are at that I am going to do as I like age and I just don’t do well with controlling them.

Since October we have been doing a video series and we have been combining classes. All the kids from k thru 4th are in one class right now and there are three of us teaching it. Since it has been combined I have taken a step back and started going back to the adult Sunday school class. I feel like I am a Christian that is really in need of growth and the adult Sunday school class has always been one of those places where I find that growth and feel like I am being challenged. I noticed after I started teaching I started to have a disconnect with my growth as a Christian. It was hard for me because I felt like I was in a rout. The past couple months I have really started to feel like I am connecting again and the need and desire for growth has returned.

I have now been told we are going to go back to our own individual classes here soon. This would mean I have to go back to teaching. This is something I really do not want to do. This is why I struggle, I am supposed to be a servant to the Lord and do my part as his servant. I am not really actively involved in my church and teaching has been one of the ways that I contribute to the church as a member. If I give up teaching I would not be contributing as I should. If I keep teaching I am really afraid that my disconnect will return and I will start struggling all over again. I really could use any advice that any of you could share with me. I feel like if I stop teaching I am doing it for my own selfish reasons but I also feel like if I don’t stop teaching I am not going to grow with the Lord as I should.

Going Back In Time

ALOHA FRIDAY # 24

As I listened to the radio I am listing to this great song and how it tells us “Your gona miss this and your gona want these days back”. I think back to how many times I remember wishing I was older or that I could do this or that and then my mom or dad would say those words. Telling me I don’t want to grow up to fast. Looking back now I totally agree and I find myself telling my son that he doesn’t want to grow up to fast as he is at the age where he is always saying when I get older….

My question this week…..

If you could go back in time and live through any part of your life again, where would you go and how old would you be?

If I could go back I would back myself up to about 9 years old. It would be summer time and I would be outside playing baseball with the neighborhood kids. We had a church parking lot on our block with an ally down the middle and we played baseball and raced our bikes down the ally, all summer long for years. It was mostly boys I played with but I had some of the best times of my life looking back at those summers. I can only hope my kids end up with summer time memories of their childhood that were as good as mine.

My Best Friend

In my life I have had so many people that I though were my friends really cause me pain and push me right out of their lives. It is one of those things you often wonder what I did wrong, why do they not want to be a part of my life anymore. Often it was one of those things where they just stop communicating with you and it hurt. No reason, no explanation, they just shut me out. I would try and try to reach out and nothing. I finally hit a point in my life where really my only friends were my husband and my mom. It was really lonely not having a girlfriend but I just put up a wall because I had been hurt so many times and decided that I wasn’t going to be hurt anymore.

Then about 7 years ago I worked with this gal who befriended me. It wasn’t an instant friendship but it built up over time and we became so close. Today I call her my best friend and I couldn’t imagine not having her in my life. I trust her with everything. With that said here are 5 reasons why I love having her in my life and these are the reasons she is and will always be my best friend.

1. She loves my kids.
She loves kids and she treats mine like they were her own. She calls herself their Aunt and that is exactly what she is to my kids. She spoils them more than any of their real aunts ever would. She spoils them with gifts (that are not necessary), goes to soccer games, birthday parties and everything else that I ask her to attend. At one point Luke called her the present lady because every time we saw her she had a gift for him. Now he just gets excited to here he is going to see her. She plays with them and loves them as much as I do.

2. We are so much alike
We love the same things from talking about the kids, work, and family. We watch the same TV shows and end up texting each other in the evenings when we get excited over something we both know the other is watching.

3. Things we do
We live about 30 minutes from each other and work really far from each other. Since we live far apart we don’t get to do much together too often but when we do we have a really great time. We have gone to concerts together. A couple times each year we get manicures and pedicures together and that is always a fun time. We gab away the entire time and it goes so fast. We have gone on girl trips together. I remember our last trip it was just her and me in my car and our 6 hour drive to Tennessee felt like 5 minutes because we gabbed the time away. Can you tell we are gabby… lol

4. Sharing everything
I share all my thoughts and feelings with her. I can't think of anyone who knows me as well as she does.

5. We inspire each other.
She loves to shop; hand bags and shoes are her weakness. I am very frugal and debate over buying anything and often walk away with nothing. When we shop together she encourages me to splurge on myself and I help her behave and not go over board. LOL… It is funny to see us. She telling me “just buy it, when do you ever do anything for just you….” Then there is me “do you really need that? How many of those do you already have?” It is pretty funny!!! Now if she could just help me with my buyer’s remorse. We just bought new hand bags at a party and I am having major buyer remorse because I have never spent that much money on a purse.

I just hope nothing ever changes between us and someday we are 90 and still getting together to gab it up. LOL….

The photo is of me and her from one of our girl trips. We went to Tennesse in 2005.
