Our First Field Trip

Luke went on his first ever school field trip. All three kindergarten classes went to the zoo. 20 parents got to go be a part of the day and Luke asked his dad to go. I was a little hurt he didn't pick me but I also am running out of vacation days and need to watch where I am using them up.

The day of the zoo trip we all over slept. Go figure the day we need to be somewhere extra important and the alarm doesn't go off. I wake up and see it is 6:55 and they are supposed to be at the school at 7:45. I am like a cat on cat-nip (I think that's what it is called), anyway I am running like a crazy person. Eric, not in a hurry. This causes me more stress because he can be late and he doesn't care. I just wasn't about to let Luke miss his big field trip day because his dad can't get it in gear.

So I pack their lunches, feed Luke and get him moving. Now I would like to point out this was supposed to be my morning where I get to kick back, take it easy, get only one kid ready, and only have to make one child care stop that morning. Oh how I was looking forward to a nice cup of coffee and a care free morning. However my alarm clock took that away from me. Oh well this is my life after all.

Luke road for the first time ever on the big yellow school bus. I was more nervous about this than anyone. I guess I just don't understand how school buses can get away with not having seat belts when by state law my child has to be in a booster seat of some type for the next several years. Doesn't seem right if you ask me.

Parents did not get to ride on the bus. All chaperons car pooled together. So Eric got to ride with 4 other moms. He was so funny to tell me about the car pooling. Eric can't stand when women start getting catty and he said the moment they got in the car it started. If only you could have seen his reaction to all of this. It was a really good laugh.
Luke and his dad!

The weather sucked! Eric and another one of the mom's bought all the kids rain coats because none of them were prepared to spend the day out in the rain. I should clarify all the kids in their group. It was four parents and 8 kids per group. The classes did not stay together which is nice because they could see more in smaller groups.
These poor kids looked like drown rats.
Over all they had a really good time even if they got wet.

Then Eric had another fun ride home. One of the mom's ended up getting sick in the car on the way home. She threw up in the back seat only to cause the other mom in the back seat to get sick also. Talk about an adventurous day. I must say, I am glad I missed that part of it.

Have you done any school field trips with your kids?

No field trips for us yet - we do carpool to playgroup.

Yours definitely sounded like an adventure but great job persevering despite the weather.

So glad I was not there for the ride home! I once got car sick on a bus ride - threw up all over my friend and her new leather coat.

We've been best friends since - that was 15 years ago!

Oh, I feel so bad for your husband with those sick women in the car. That would be so lousy! And kudos to them for buying all the kids rain coats. I hope they still had fun. The zoo can be such a great place to go. I've been on a zoo field trip. Just this morning I have a daughter who really really wanted me to come on a field trip!
